UDC was proud to take part in the recent NHS Property Services webinar exploring the opportunities and practical steps involved in delivering net zero across the NHS estate.
Our Operations Director, Dave Percy, was invited to join the expert panel alongside representatives from NHS England, NHS Property Services Ltd, and UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering to discuss the practical realities of decarbonising complex healthcare environments.
A key theme throughout the discussion was the important role retrofit and reuse will play in supporting the NHS on its journey towards net zero. The panel explored how making better use of existing buildings and assets can help deliver long-term sustainability goals whilst continuing to support operational and clinical requirements.
The webinar covered a range of topics, including aligning backlog maintenance with decarbonisation strategies, taking a phased and practical approach to retrofit projects, and using reliable estate data to support investment decisions. Discussions also highlighted the importance of collaboration, long-term planning, and practical delivery in achieving meaningful progress across the healthcare estate.
The session provided valuable insight into what successful net zero delivery looks like in practice and reinforced the importance of collaboration across the healthcare and built environment sectors.
