scope of work

UDC provided a full consultancy service for a series of heating and refurbishment works at Plant Hill Health Centre. the primary focus was the replacement of internal pipework and radiators on the first floor. the existing one-pipe system was outdated, constantly running, and had began leaking. the new installation included insulated pipework and radiators with individual controls, improving temperature regulation and energy efficiency.

the scope was later extended to include the refurbishment of first-floor staff offices, which involved new flooring, internal door replacements, redecoration, and a full kitchen upgrade. on the ground floor, UDC also managed improvements in communal and clinical areas, including flooring replacement and completion of outstanding items from previous works.

challenges faced

the transition to the new boiler system was completed over a weekend, allowing staff to return on monday to a fully operational and upgraded heating system with no disruption.

as the building remained in use throughout, the internal works required careful co-ordination. most activities were carried out during evenings and weekends to minimise impact to staff and patients. this required close collaboration between UDC, the contractor, and the health centre team to ensure works progressed efficiently and safely.

outcome

the project successfully delivered a more efficient and controllable heating system, significantly improving comfort for building users. refurbished staff areas on the first floor now offer a brighter, more modern environment, while ground floor spaces were brought up to a consistent standard.

the works demonstrated the value of flexibility and clear communication in live environments. UDC’s consultancy role was key in managing the evolving scope and maintaining a smooth delivery, resulting in a positive outcome for both staff and patients.
