scope of work
UDC was appointed as contract administrator and full-service consultant for the structural repairs at Whitefield Health Centre. our role included providing the design for the structural works, overseeing the removal of a collapsed wall, installing steel piles for structural support and reinstating the affected portion of the car park. this involved relaying the surface to ensure it was level, restoring fencing, clearing vegetation and debris, and carrying out additional drainage repairs identified during the project.
while the space itself did not change significantly in appearance, the key aim was to repair and reinstate the area so the health centre could once again make full use of its car park.
challenges faced
a key consideration throughout the project was maintaining good co-ordination with neighbouring properties, ensuring clear communication and minimising disruption.
technically, the sheet piling works presented some challenges, as the ground movement during installation affected a larger area of the car park surface than initially expected. UDC responded promptly, adapting the project scope to include more extensive relaying and line marking. this ensured the car park was restored to a high standard, beyond the original planned extent of repairs, without compromising the project timeline or overall outcome.
outcome
the project was successfully delivered, restoring essential parking capacity to the busy Whitefield Health Centre. prior to the works, a significant portion of the car park had been closed off for safety reasons, reducing available spaces. with the repairs complete, the centre regained around 20 parking spaces, providing much needed capacity to support day-to-day operations and improve patient access.
